History of Canada’s  Energy Rebate

There are various types of energy rebates offered to the citizens of Canada:

  1. Federal Energy Rebates: It came into action on November 25, 2005, and its primary goal is to encourage Canadians to make their homes more energy-efficient by providing some incentives. It is provided to lower bills, improve home comfort, and contribute to environmental sustainability. Through this initiative, house owners can receive grants of up to CAD 5,000 to add and upgrade to energy-efficient features to their primary residences. Eligible energy-efficient features include upgrading heaters, installing solar panels, and replacing windows and doors. The process involves an energy evaluation by a certified adviser, followed by hiring a licensed contractor for the changes.
  2. CAIP: It was launched to lower emissions, promote energy conservation, and support sustainable practices as the federal government applied a price on pollution in those regions which didn’t have their own pollution pricing systems meeting the set national criteria. It is delivered quarterly to the eligible residents by providing 90% amount from the federal fuel charge which is returned to the residents through CAI payments. The remaining 10% goes into supporting small businesses and indigenous groups. In these regions, fishers and farmers are currently not required to pay federal fuel charge on gas and light fuel oil (e.g., diesel) if it is being used for eligible fishing and farming activities.
